Its been a few weeks since we had opportunity to add any real news to the website so stand by for a longer update than normal!
Firstly, the kennel Dog Of Month award for May has been given to Where’s Spike. It was a close call between him and kennel newcomer Tippy Toe Tyson but we felt Spike just edged it. Having run 4 times, winning twice and being a runner up on another occasion, Spike really found his feet and a level of consistency which saw him progress up the grades nicely. There’s no reason why he cannot continue his progression and climb further up the grades at Monmore.
May also saw us represented in the final of the Greyhound Stud Book Trophy with Klockwork Korker. Having won his heat in impressive style he was sent to the traps a warm favorite, however, with an unfavorable draw to overcome it was always going to be difficult. With plenty of early pace on the rails he needed to either fly out or miss it and follow the early pace round. He couldn’t have done anything worse and started moderately and soon found himself in the middle of the pack approaching the first bend, there was no where to go and although forced out onto the grass following crowding he ran on for 4th place, the worthy winner Benkaat Blue for Mark Wallis.
On the same evening, Klockwork Kaipo took the honors in a tough, one off £500 supporting open to enhance his ever growing reputation for early pace. Breaking from the boxes sharply, arguably his best to date, he paced up and made the bend in front of Chris Alsopp’s early pace railer before stretching ut and winning comfortably by a couple of lengths.
Korker along with brother Kaipo and sisters Kyoko, Kindra and Rock It Vera will all now head to Swindon for the upcoming Produce Stakes. They all trialled round there recently and posted satisfactory times for their introductions to the track. Korker clocked 28.58 whilst Vera beat Kindra in 28.83. Kaipo and Kyoko had sprint trials and recorded 16.24 and 16.46 respectively. Entries close this coming Tuesday at which time we should know if there will be the need for qualifying trial before the first round proper on Friday 5th July.
Scolari Express is taking time to settle and is yet to win for the kennels but has been posting some good trial times. He’ll be heading to Sunderland for the upcoming festival in July.
Abbeyvale Usher has been running superbly well over the last few weeks and is through to this weeks Summer Classic Semi Finals at Monmore on Monday. Although not having an ideal draw, in trap 3, the middle course is no stranger to him and he may surprise a few if breaking smartly. We know he’s capable of running low 38 seconds so it’ll be a case of blasting out and holding on to qualify for the final.
A quick update on injuries, Bold Three has been given the green light to resume full training and he’ll start back very soon, as has Butterball and Klockwork Kobe. Monaghan Jack recently trialled back after a very lengthy layoff following surgery on a toe injury, he recorded a sub 28.60 trial with a very fast split so initial signs are that the surgery has been a success and it will be great to have him back on the racing strength. A fantastic dog for owner Gerry Monaghan who knows how to win. Trisul Baoli is slowly recovering following major surgery to repair his badly broken leg, once fully healed he’ll be found a loving home so he can enjoy a very happy retirement.
On the subject of injuries, it was nice to see Go Go Sonic return from his troublesome, ongoing, shoulder issues. Although beaten in A1 last week, he was dropped to A2 and duly obliged and on his way recorded a flying 28.19 (+20).
We’ve nearly completed another session of puppy schooling and have some very promising youngsters coming through. I won’t be giving too much away on here at the moment but as with all our pups they are not over schooled and will continue to improve when hitting the track. You only have to look at our recent graduates where they have started brightly and have already won races from way off the pace, the “Marcos” prefix pups looks certain to stay further than the Monmore 480m and will be interesting runners over the extended trips.
The litter we have for Susan Corrigan, Rob Morphew and Allan Baldwin all look promising and will be heading to Monmore soon to be marked up and start their careers.
We have various syndicates within the kennels, both those independently from the kennel but also one within the kennels. We are looking at the possibility of starting another with a dog pup from the Droopys Scolari x Klockwork Kyla litter, if you would be interested in joining this syndicate please contact us as we only have 10 spaces available and have already had interest for half of them.
Finally I’d like to welcome a couple new owners to the kennel. Perry Madden brings his ‘Fizzypop’ syndicate to the kennels and has placed a couple of racers into our care. Bob Batten has also joined us and brings in Carrowkeal Shaw to us. He seems to have settled well and recently won a trial in sub 28.70 when catching Rock It Paris on the run in.
